Mental health coach explains how to end an awkward conversation without seeming rude

It seems almost every day we are learning new things thanks to TikTok – life hacks and tips and tricks that can make our lives a little easier.

We recently discovered a simple way to put on our own fiddly bracelets and the five words you can say at the start of a phone call so that you can hang up without offending the person on the other end of the line.

And now we’ve discovered something else that is bound to come in handy at some point soon.

A TikTok user and mental health coach has been sharing a series of videos explaining psychology tricks that people can use to their advantage – and one involves ending awkward conversations without seeming rude.

In a viral video, Karissa Wampler explained how you can get yourself out of an awkward situation like this.

She said: “Next time you’re stuck in a conversation you don’t want to be having, here’s what you’re going to do.

“Instead of making up a lame excuse or just walking away, you can actually use psychology to make THEM end the conversation for you.

“While you are talking, switch between looking at the left eye/right eye/forehead.”

She continues to explain: “Looking at the forehead makes the subconscious incredibly uncomfortable which will lead people to believe that they need to exit the conversation.

“And you don’t have to say anything.”

Karissa’s video has since been watched over 400,000 times and garnered more than 70,000 likes.

Hundreds of people also replied in the comments, with one saying: “You are out here doing God’s work.”

Another wrote: “That’s so smart.”

“Wow, I need to try that,” added a third.

Others pointed out there were some moments when this trick wouldn’t work though – such as when the other person isn’t looking at you.
